Agriculture remains the backbone of Uganda’s economy, employing over 70% of the rural population and serving as a lifeline for millions of families. Yet, despite its central role, smallholder farmers continue to face deep-rooted challenges that limit their productivity, earnings, and resilience. From poor access to quality agricultural inputs, low mechanization, and unreliable markets, to the near absence of electricity in many villages—these barriers trap farming communities in cycles of poverty and vulnerability.
One of the most pressing issues is the exploitation by middlemen who offer unfair prices for agricultural produce, eroding farmers' profits and undermining their hard work. Without access to direct markets, reliable information, or financial tools, many rural farmers struggle to break even, let alone thrive.
In this program, we seek to transform rural agriculture into a driver of empowerment and opportunity. Our approach is holistic and community-centered. We aim to:
- LDistribute agricultural inputs such as improved seeds, tools, and eco-friendly fertilizers to the most vulnerable farming households.
- Provide solar lighting and solar-powered systems to help families extend productive hours and support agri-processing.
- Deploy digital tools and mobile platforms that link farmers directly to buyers, market prices, and financial services.
- Train and support farmer cooperatives in digital literacy, agribusiness management, and cooperative governance.
