Climate Resilience and Environmental Stewardship.

Uganda is richly blessed with a favorable climate, fertile soils, and abundant natural beauty resources that hold immense potential for driving social, economic development and ensuring the health and wellbeing of all citizens. However, the growing impact of climate change is threatening these blessings, hitting even the most remote rural communities many of whom have limited understanding of climate change and its long-term consequences.

At the Blessed Margarita Foundation, we believe that climate action must start at the grassroots. Our goal is to empower vulnerable communities especially women, youth, and street children with the knowledge, tools, and opportunities they need to protect their environment while also improving their livelihoods.

Through this program, we aim to:

  • Promote alternative cooking solutions that reduce dependence on firewood and charcoal, and curb deforestation.
  • Establish “Blessed Margarita Green Belts”—community-led tree planting corridors in rural areas to restore ecosystems and foster environmental stewardship
  • Support and organize women and street children who collect plastic waste for recycling companies, helping them form structured groups that can negotiate better prices, receive fair compensation, and access financial literacy and business training.
  • Raise awareness about climate change in schools, communities, and faith-based institutions using creative, localized, and multilingual approaches
